This past weekend, I took a flight to Haiti to bury my grandfather. It was a chance to pay my final respects with the knowledge that I will have to live with my own demons for awhile. I'm not going to get too personal in this post, but I will say that I was unable to bring myself to take pictures of the funeral. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't take any pictures of the funeral.
On a lighter note, the visit to Haiti was a wonderful experience, to say the least. Reasons that made it a wonderful experience:
- It was my girlfriend's first visit to Haiti. She absolutely LOVED it.
- It was the first time my entire family from New Jersey took a flight to the country at the same time.
- Oh. My entire family and I stayed in the same house during our visit. <------*Stories for another post.*
- The valuable life/learning experience it taught me.
- Closure
I came back a stronger man, and a better photographer because of that trip. I learned that it's okay to display my emotions and allow others to come into my world, instead of always being so closely guarded all the time. I learned what it truly means to live, laugh, and love.
I know the plans for the future of this website and I will make sure to always acknowledge those in my life that have made some type of impact in my life. If I ever sway from it, LET ME KNOW.
Welcome to Yvel's Photography. Welcome to my world.
