I need to put this out here on the web for my own reasons.
Let's begin:
There are several reasons/people as to why I mustered up the courage to actually take this "photography thing" and go forward with it -- FULL SPEED.
Now, I'm noticing a pattern here in which I am making an effort to genuinely thank those who have inspired me to pursue my journey. One such person is Gricel Robles, owner of www.GricelPhotography.com. Her Facebook page is Gricel's Photography.
In my opinion, I think she's an AMAZING wedding photographer and I've admired her work over the past several years as I've noticed the quality of her work improve time after time. Picture after picture. Frame after frame.
Plus, she did Tough Mudder and owns a pit bull. How bad-ass is that? !?!
However, I always had the 'fly on the wall' approach and admired her work from the outside looking in. Until one day I had the courage to ask her to second-shoot on some weddings. And she said "YES"! I was soooo stoked. But I digress.
This brings me to Yvel's Photography. As I was trying to come up with a name for my business, I thought of all sorts of combinations with my first and last name, abbreviations, etc. Then I remembered Gricel and I instantly understood why she chose Gricel's Photography (I haven't had this convo with her yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm right). Her first name is rather unique. Well, my first name is unique, too. Gricel's Photography. Yvel's Photography. It just rolls off the tongue so smoothly. Why not?
So, no. I wasn't trying to copy her in that instance. Just someone I secretly looked up to, and I still do. I tried to model after her a bit, but with my own uniqueness and style.
Okay now. Glad that's off my chest. Ahhhh... I feel much, much better. Remember, if there is someone you know that has helped or inspired you in some way, shape, or form -- TELL THEM. Or, in my case, write a blog about it. ;-)
If you haven't checked her page by now, I suggest you do so -- NOW!
