Sorry folks, no Kanye-isms today. Why? Because I'm going to praise a really DOPE rapper, and friend, that I'm truly fond of -- Reyshizz.
While he's not your typical rapper (you're not going to really hear about guns or money, hoes, & clothes), he's definitely killing the game right now. One of my many sources of "Inspiration".
“I know that what I’m doing is important...”
Now, no one starts out great, but when their passion and soul is poured into their art, there's no stopping the artist. Over the past several years, I've been a fan of his music and his hustle. His music has matured and has really gotten better. Lyric after lyric. Track after track. Video after video.
Top 3 Reasons why I admire him:
“I’m a simple, thought provoking dude making music that will one day impact millions.”
- He took his passion and put it out there for the world to judge. Something that is very hard to do as an artist because it allows the world to either embrace you, or walk all over you.
- His passion for music and rap is insane and you can hear it in his lyrics.
- He's pretty smart. 3.9 GPA smart. 3.9 GPA from an engineering school smart. How many rappers can say that?
Contrary to what he may believe, his latest single, "I Suck", is a 'self-depricating' song in which he describes himself as an artist that thought he was the 'shizz', but came to a point in his rap career where people booed him off stage and yelled "You suck!".
Now, do I think he suffers from the Impostor Syndrome? Absolutely, not. Me, on the other hand, that's a different story. But this post isn't about me. At least, I hope he doesn't suffer from this particular syndrome, no matter how much he may think he sucks. I hope he knows that he puts out really great music as he tries to continue to breathe life back into hip-hop, because hip-hop, in its current form -- SUCKS! But I digress.
Jay-Z sucked at one point. Notorious B.I.G. sucked at one point. Tupac sucked at one point. Kanye West sucked at one point. Reyshizz sucked at one point.
